No stranger to many forms of the arts, NYC singer and painter Erika Lloyd is most widely known as the lead songstress for her self-titled indie pop band (previously known as Little Grey Girlfriend.) This sweet soprano can also be found performing with the professional chamber choir Choral Chameleon, teaching voice for Atmosphere Academy, and teaching for her own voice and piano studio.
A classically trained artist with a Bachelors of Voice Performance Early Music from Indiana University, Lloyd has studied with world-renowned early music performers and was a featured soloist in the revered choral ensemble, Pro Arte.
Erika’s work in cross-genre performance and composition led to the Grammy Award-winning ensemble, Chanticleer, arranging (Vice Peterson arr.) and performing Erika’s song, “Cells Planets” on its international 2010-2011 Out of This World Concert Tour. They also released their version of the song on their 2010 ‘Out of This World’ album, and 2012’s ‘By Request,’ which is a compilation of their most requested songs.
The original recording of the album, “Cells Planets” was made possible by Lloyd and band winning a battle of the bands at The Cutting Room in NYC in 2008: the prize being a day of studio time.
Band member, musical collaborator, and husband, Brad Whiteley records and performs with Lloyd while also maintaining an exciting career of his own. He has recently toured as Regina Spektor’s keyboardist, worked with David Byrne as a keyboardist and music director, and made his acting debut as “pianist in bar” in PBS’s Learning Matters: School Sleuth airing fall of 2015.
A passionate, dedicated vocalist and artist, Erika is constantly thriving on the exploration and expansion of her ever-evolving career. She loves to blend the elements of classical music with the edge of experimental pop, finding it both challenging and fulfilling to experience a different level of connection with all types of audiences. Lloyd not only creates beautiful and haunting work with her voice, she’s also a commissioned visual artist. Her range in character, style and creativity ensures that Erika Lloyd will remain a staple in the music world for years to come.
“…blends eccentric indie pop with chamber music… especially effective in the way it hearkens back to the experimental pop music of the 1980s, how it sounds high-gloss and ornate at the same time.” ~PopMatters.com
